| Few reports are available about the ichthyofauna of typical semi-arid rivers, although the regional diversity has been constantly threatened by human activities, mainly related to impoundment and construction of dams. | Studies investigating rickettsial infections in ticks parasitizing wild animals in the Northeast region of Brazil have been confined to the detection of Rickettsia amblyommii in immature stages of Amblyomma longirostre collected from birds in the state of Bahia, and in immatures and females of Amblyomma auriculariumcollected from the striped hog-nosed skunk (Conepatus semistriatus) and armadillos (Euphractus sexcinctus) in the state of Pernambuco. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a variabilidade genética de estoques comerciais do camarão Litopenaeus vannamei, por meio de marcadores RAPD e diferentes métodos estatísticos de análises, em Canavieiras, BA. Vinte primers foram utilizados para a obtenção de 59 marcadores polimórficos. A análise com o programa AMOVA evidenciou diferenciação genética significativa entre os estoques, com fiST = 0,186 (p<0,001). | O Pontal do Paranapanema é a região mais recentemente desflorestada do Estado de São Paulo. Os efeitos da fragmentação florestal na estrutura genética de Copaifera langsdorffii Desf. foram avaliados por meio da genotipagem, com seis locos microssatélites, de pelo menos 30 indivíduos regenerantes e 30 adultos em três áreas do Pontal do Paranapanema. A amostragem compreendeu dois fragmentos localizados em assentamentos rurais, Tucano (800 ha) e Madre Cristina (300 ha); e uma população localizada em floresta contínua, no Parque Estadual do Morro do Diabo (35.000 ha). | Abstract Forest loss and fragmentation are the main threats to the maintenance of the Atlantic Forest, an important global biodiversity hotspot. Because of the current critical level of deforestation, ecological corridors are needed to facilitate species dispersion and gene flow among fragments.
